Bears Tied For 13th
Charleston, S.C.—Strong rain hampered the Mercer men's golf team in the first round of the Daniel Island at Ralston Creek Golf Course on Sunday.
The Bears, who are enjoying a strong fall season, are tied for 13th place in the 18-team field after the first round of play. Coach Jason Payne said the team struggled at the start in a pouring rain. Mercer shot a team 313, 25 shots over par in the first round. Florida Gulf Coast leads the team scoring, at +7, further testament as to the difficult conditions on Sunday.
Jonathan Parker and Trey Mixon were both four over par, 76 on the par 72 course to lead Mercer. That has them tied for 24th place. Tobias Jonsson's 77 has him +5. Gustav Sjoberg is at +12 with an 84. Reece Moore had an opening day round of 86, +14.
The tournament will have its second round of play on Monday, Oct. 31, and conclude on Tuesday, Nov. 1.
