Harper broke school record for all-purpose yards in a game
MACON, Ga. - Wide receiver Devron Harper was named SoCon Special Teams Player of the Week, for his record-setting performance against VMI.
Harper set a Mercer school record with 293 all-purpose yards in last week's win at VMI. The previous record was set last season by Fred Davis who had 276 all-purpose yards against Samford.
The highlight of the day for the junior from Conyers, Georgia, was his 87-yard punt return for a touchdown, the second-longest punt return in program history, to open the scoring in the first quarter. Harper finished the day with a school-record 126 yards on four punt returns (31.5 yards per return) and had two kickoff returns for 65 yards (32.5 yards per return).
Against VMI, Harper had 126 punt return yards, 80 receiving yards, 65 kick return yards, and 22 rushing yards.
This is the second school record Harper broke this season. Harper also broke the school record for receiving touchdowns in a season when he caught his eighth of the year against Western Carolina.
Through nine games this season, Harper is tied for the most touchdowns in the FCS with 16.
