
Mercer Jumps Up to 11th in AFCA Coaches Poll

Bears moved up five spots after defeating VMI last week
MACON, Ga. - Following its 55-14 win at VMI, Mercer received a No. 11 ranking in the AFCA FCS Coaches Top 25 poll. The Bears were previously ranked No. 16 going into the VMI game.
Eleventh is tied for the highest ranking this season for Mercer. The Bears are one of four teams from the SoCon ranked in the poll. Samford is No. 10, Chattanooga is No. 12 and Furman who defeated Chattanooga last week entered the rankings for the first time this season at No. 19.
Mercer is coming off a dominant 55-14 win over VMI. Devron Harper broke a Mercer school record for all-purpose yards in a game with 293. He had 126 punt return yards, 80 receiving yards, 65 kickoff return yards and 20 rushing yards. Mercer outscored VMI 24-0 in the second quarter to head into the half with a 31-0 lead.
Mercer scored more than 40 points in a game for the fifth time in its last six games. Defensively the Bears lead the FCS in interceptions with 18, including two at VMI.

This week the Bears have a bye week. The next game is Nov 12 at 3 p.m. at home against Furman.
