| Â MERCER/PRESBYTERIAN SERIES | |||
| Saturday's contest will mark the 18th meeting between Mercer and Presbyterian in a series that dates all the way back to the 1927 season. The squads have locked horns in Macon 11 times across that span, as well as once at a neutral site. The Blue Hose won that 1940 contest in Albany, Georgia, by a 3-2 final. The Bears lead the all-time series, however, 11-6. | |||
| Â SCOUTING THE BLUE HOSE | |||
| Despite turning in, arguably, the greatest season in the 113 years of Presbyterian football last fall, the Blue Hose were picked to finish seventh in a preseason poll of the Pioneer Football League's 11 head coaches that was released in late July. Few teams can equal the influx of youth on Presbyterian's roster this season as the Blue Hose rolled into last week's season opener sporting 81 newcomers, including 59 true freshmen. Regardless, the Blue Hose racked up 576 yards of total offense, including 295 in the second half alone, to fuel a 47-37 victory over visiting UVa.-Wise (NCAA II) on August 27 in Clinton, S.C. | |||
| Â THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE HOME | |||
| Mercer is now 55-22 (.714) all-time in Five Star Stadium after last week's victory over East Texas A&M, including a 19-5 (.792) record against non-conference opponents. The Bears have captured 21 of their last 25 home games heading into Saturday's matchup with Presbyterian. | |||
| Â MERCER VS. NON-CONFERENCE OPPONENTS | |||
| The Orange & Black has posted a 29-21 (.580) record against non-conference competition since revamping its program in time for the 2013 campaign. The Bears are 21-9 (.700) against non-conference FCS foes, including a 12-5 mark in such games at Five Star Stadium. Mercer had its six-game win streak against FCS non-conference foes snapped in last year's season opener with Presbyterian. | |||
| Â NEXT WEEK FOR THE BEARS | |||
| Mercer will close out its season-opening 3-game home stand, as well as open defense of its back-to-back Southern Conference championships, on September 12 when the Bears suit up to take on SoCon rival Furman in Five Star Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET and tickets can be purchased by visiting MercerBears.com/Tickets. | |||
