Bears Dominate in their Last Regular Season Match

MACON, GA - The Mercer Bears came back from a 2-0 start to finish out their regular season play with a win over Wofford College.Â
Set One | Wofford took an early 4-1 lead, but mercer found their footing thanks to big kills from Rachel Bell and Lillian Beardsley. The Bulldogs refused to give up the lead and led 15-10 in the first timeout. Wofford would go on a 5-1 scoring run that would be cut short by kills from Jaida Howell. It would not be enough and take the set 25-19.
Set Two | The Bears started strong with more big kills from Beardsley and Howell. Beardsley led both teams in kills and dominated the net. Wofford went on a 3-0 scoring run to tie it at 11. The teams stayed close and Bell continued to pick up kills to keep the Bears in front. The teams tied again at 20 and Wofford took the lead after a 4-0 scoring run. Wofford held this lead and took the set 25-22.
Set Three | Mercer took an early 3-1 lead with Wofford quickly lessening the deficit to tie it at five. Wofford continued their momentum and after a 6-1 scoring run, they led 7-5 at the first timeout. Big kills from Wagers and Karle cut down on the deficit and the teams tied throughout the set. The Bears showed their power at the net with multiple kills from Kiera McCarles and Karle to take the lead. Wofford held the Bears at set point with a 3-0 scoring run, but a service error would lead the Bears to take the set 25-23.Â
Set Four | The set started with a strong 5-1 scoring run for the Bears and they would hold this lead for most of the set. Karle and Howell continued to pick up kills to help Mercer lead 10-5 at the first timeout. Bell and Paige Wagers picked up more kills to keep the team in front. Mercer continued to dominate with a ten-point difference and took the set 25-17.
Set Four | Big kills from Beardsley and Howell let the Bears get in front first and forced a timeout from Wofford (5-2). More kills from Howell and Karle furthered the Bears lead, but was met with a 4-0 scoring run to tie it at 7. The run was cut short by Karle and the Bears gained back their lead.  A kill from Beardsley and a service ace from Morgan Verheyen would close the set 15-10 for the Bears.
