Fred Payton Sets Single-Season Passing Yards Record

Payton has thrown for 2,505 passing yards this season
MACON, Ga. - Quarterback Fred Payton set a Mercer school record for most passing yards in a season during Saturday's game against Furman. Payton has now thrown for 2,505 passing yards this season.
The school record most passing yards in a season had been 2,345 yards, set by John Russ in 2016. Payton broke the record in the second quarter on a completion to Trey Adkins.
Payton's 2,505 passing yards on the season is the second-most in the SoCon and is good for 19th out of all FCS quarterbacks.
This is the third school record Payton has set this season. He know holds the Mercer school records for single-season passing yards, most passing touchdowns in a game (5), and single-season passing touchdowns (30).

Mercer travels to Birmingham, Alabama to take on Samford on Saturday, Nov. 19. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m.
