Mercer uses a trio of home runs to dispatch Rattlers
HOW IT HAPPENED
Josh Farmer picked up his first win of the season as he threw 5.0 innings, allowed four hits, surrendered three runs – two earned – while fanning one and allowing a free pass.
Starting off the home half of the first with two quick outs, Mercer made noise with three quick runs, highlighted by a Collin Price homer to left which brought home Bill Knight. The Rattlers countered with two in their half of the third.
Mercer exploded for six in the third when Angelo DiSpigna sent a ball into deep center when he cleared the bases on a grand slam to stretch the lead to 9-2.
FAMU's Ethan Jenkins plated a single and drove in Ty Hanchey to bring their deficit to six in the top of the third.
Following defensive miscues by the visitors, the Bears tallied three more in the fourth to grab a 12-3 advantage over the Rattlers.

In relief for Mercer, Avery Stephens fanned six of seven batters faced in his 2.0 innings of work, allowing just one hit. Walter Thomas yielded a walk and plunked a Rattler in his 0.1 innings in the 8th. Spencer Borgel got out of an inherited jam as he retired the two via punchout to get out of the eighth.
Over the next two innings, Mercer tacked on two in each – including a two-run homer to right-center by Jackson Cherry.
Mercer and FAMU will play the finale their two-game set tomorrow evening at OrthoGeorgia Park. First pitch between the Bears and Rattlers is scheduled for 6 p.m.
