Mercer earns the sweep after defeating The Citadel, 11-5.

MACON, Ga. – Bill Knight had three extra-base hits, including a sixth-inning grand slam, to lead Mercer to an 11-5 victory over The Citadel in the series finale Sunday at OrthoGeorgia Park. The Bears also swept the Southern Conference-opening series from the Bulldogs.

The Citadel (17-13, 0-3 SoCon) scored four runs in the top of the sixth inning to pull even with Mercer (27-5, 3-0 SoCon).

However, the Bears loaded the bases in the bottom of the frame, before Knight belted a grand slam over the wall in center field to give Mercer an 8-4 advantage.

The Bears added two more runs in the panel on back-to-back RBI doubles by Angelo DiSpigna and Trevor Austin.

Knight added two doubles, including one in the first inning to drive in Colby Thomas to open the scoring on a three-run stanza. Knight finished the game 3 for 4 with 6 RBIs.

William Mapes increased Mercer's lead to 4-0 in the fourth on a solo homer. It was his second home run of the series.

Josh Farmer (5-0) picked up the win after a strong start to the game. The right-hander allowed a single to Noah Mitchell to lead off the second inning. He then retired 12 consecutive batters before allowing a leadoff walk in the sixth to Crosby Jones.

The Bulldogs struck for four runs in the sixth on Dylan Costa's sacrifice fly and Mitchell's three-run homer.

Farmer then handed the ball over to Wesley Franklin for the rest of the contest. Franklin received his first save of the season after hurling the final three innings of the game.

The Bears collected 14 hits in the series finale.

Jordan Beatson (1-2) took the loss out of the bullpen for The Citadel after allowing four runs in two-thirds of an inning.
