Running Backs, Wide Receiver, Offensive Lineman and Safety Add to Bears' Depth
MACON, Ga.—Mercer head football coach Drew Cronic has announced the addition of five student-athletes to his roster for the upcoming season. Coach Cronic said, "We are very excited about these five additions to our program. There were a couple of needs, especially on the offensive side of the ball, that we were able to address. When we sign a transfer, or any player, there are two critical questions. Does this young man fit our culture? Is he going to help us win the SoCon? These five young men check off all the boxes."
Austin Douglas

Running Back
Alpharetta, Georgia/Mount Vernon High School
James Madison University
Â
As a senior at Mount Vernon High School in Alpharetta, Douglas was a Class A Private All-State player and 5-A Region Offensive Player of the Year rushing for 1,673 yards and scoring 17 touchdowns (averaging 10.5 yards a carry). He was a three-time All-Region selection. He helped Mount Vernon to three playoff appearances and was a multi-sport athlete who also played basketball and ran track.
Douglas has been at James Madison for the past three seasons. He played in 10 games last year for the Dukes where he had 27 carries for 176 yards and three receptions for 35 yards.
Coach Cronic on Douglas: Â "Austin is coming home to Georgia, with three seasons of eligibility, after signing with and playing for James Madison. He has good size, athletic skill set and leadership qualities, and we expect him to compete for significant playing time this fall."
