Men’s Soccer Adds Four to Roster

Additions Complete 2022 Team
MACON, Ga. – Mercer men's soccer head coach Brad Ruzzo has announced the signings of four new student-athletes ahead of the 2022 season. A year ago, the Bears made their sixth appearance in the NCAA Tournament following seven wins in eight matches to capture their fourth Southern Conference Tournament title. In the tournament-clinching game, Mercer sank Belmont with the match-winner in the 88th minute to take the league's automatic bid in front of a raucous Betts Stadium crowd. Mercer made Macon a tough place for opponents – recording a 7-2 mark with the home crowd behind them, with five of those wins being clean sheets.

Brookwood High School
Kulah – a midfielder and forward – helped turn around a Brookwood High squad from an 0-8 season to a region championship and an appearance in the state quarterfinals. He tallied 11 points from seven goals and four assists in his prep career under coach Adel Mohsen. On the club side, he competed for the Georgia Soccer Academy, based in Gwinnett, Georgia. At Mercer, he plans to study business administration.

Berkmar High School
Redd – a midfielder and defender – was named Second Team All-Region for the AAAAAAA Berkmar High Patriots and tallied three goals while under the direction of Coach Alex Reynaud. In club play, he competed for coach Bruno Kalonji for the Kalonji Soccer Academy out of Norcross, Georgia. Additionally, he has played in Germany and Portugal. At Mercer, he plans to major in computer science.

Jonesboro High School
Arteaga – a midfielder and forward – joins the Bears from Jonesboro High School under instruction from head coach James Morrow. Following a senior campaign that featured 29 goals and 10 assists for the Cardinals, he was tabbed as the 3-5AAAAA Region Player of the Year. In his junior season, Arteaga scored 24 times and assisted on eight occasions. In the club circuit, he competed for Concorde Fire under the leadership of Ryan Pollard. Off the field, he volunteered in the community helping the less fortunate around the holidays. At Mercer, he plans to major in accounting.

Spalding High School
Cummins – a defender – joins Mercer following a decorated prep career at Spalding High School in Griffin, Georgia. Named the 4-AAAA Regional Defensive Player of the Year, First Team All-Region, Team MVP and Defensive Player of the Year, the defender racked up 29 goals and 40 assists in his final seasons as a Jaguar. On the club side, he competed for AFC Lightning 03/04 under the direction of Jon Williams. Off the field, he has excelled in the classroom having been tabbed as a Georgia Merit Scholar as well as a part of the National Honor Society and Key Club.
