Volleyball Opens at FAU Invitational

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer Bears volleyball team will kick off their fall season in Boca Raton, Fla. with a two-day tournament. The Bears will play Lehigh University and Florida Atlantic University on Friday and Alabama A&M on Saturday.

"We have had a very strong, focused, deliberate preseason and have been working very hard," said Head Coach Derek Schroeder. I know we have 13 student-athletes who are eager to get on the road and see where we are at!"

SCOUTING THE MOUNTAIN HAWKS
The Hawks finished the fall 2022 season with an 8-19 record. They finished with a 4-12 conference record in the Patriot league. This game will be the first meeting with the Bears. A player that the Bears will have to watch is outside hitter Megan Schulte who lead the team in kills last season (275).

SCOUTING THE OWLS
Florida Atlantic University finished the 2021 season with an 11-14 overall record, 3-9 in the CUSA conference. This will be the 13th meeting between the two teams with FAU leading the series. The coach, Fernanda Nelson, returns for her 10th season with the owls.

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
Alabama A&M finished the 2021 season with a 5-23 overall record, 5-11 in the SWAC conference. Mercer leads the series 5-0 since 2014. The Bulldogs averaged 8 kills per set and 11 digs per set.
