Mercer Football Announces 2023 Southern Conference Schedule

Bears will open conference play September 30th at Five Star Stadium with VMI
MACON, Ga. - The Mercer football team announced its 2023 Southern Conference Schedule on Monday. The Bears will play four home conference games at Five Star Stadium.
The conference opener is September 23 at Furman.
Mercer's first home game in SoCon play is Sept. 30 as VMI makes the trip down to Macon. The following week the Bears will travel to ETSU (Oct. 7) before playing back-to-back weeks at home against Chattanooga and Wofford.
The Bears will close out the month of October at Western Carolina (Oct. 28) and will then travel to The Citadel (Nov. 4) the first weekend of November. For the second consecutive season the Bears will conclude their regular season schedule against Samford on Nov. 11, as the Bulldogs will make the trip to Macon.
Mercer is coming off a 2022 campaign that saw the Bears go 7-4 overall and 5-3 in conference play. Numerous team and individual records were set throughout the 2022 season. Mercer led the SoCon in scoring offense, averaging 38.2 points per game and 12 players were named to the All-Confernce team last season.
Mercer was ranked inside the AFCA Coaches Top 25 Poll for the entire season for the first time in program history. The Bears earned their highest ranking in program history at No. 11 and finished the season ranked No. 21 in the poll.
