MACON – Mercer volleyball extends their overall win streak and home game win streaks to four in a 3-0 sweep of Chattanooga Sunday afternoon.Â
While sets one and three stayed close, there were only a total of seven lead changes in the match, with five of them coming in set three, along with 11 ties. Mercer controlled set one, only allowing one tie, otherwise leading until the set win. Set two was back and forth to begin, but it played out to be a dominating win for the Bears. The team played from behind most of set three, but always within striking distance. Once the match was tied for the final time at 22-22, a service ace by Gia Padilla, who had two aces in the set, Chattanooga called a timeout, but Mercer finished out the match with a kill by Kylee Quigley, assisted by Kiera McCarles. McCarles recorded the only assists for the Bears, logging a match-leading 47.
The Bears will travel to Greensboro to play at UNCG on October 20 at 6 p.m.
