
Volleyball Road Trips to the Carolinas

MACON – The Bears begin their second round of facing conference opponents this week, first with UNCG in Greensboro, then Wofford the next day in Spartanburg. Going into the second half of SoCon play, Mercer is 6-2 and tied with Wofford for second in the conference.
The Bears have won the last four conference matchups they have played. In the week of the two most recent matches against Samford and Chattanooga, Mercer brought home two of the three conference Player of the Week awards--Kiera McCarles for Setter of the Week and Skyler Bumpers for Offensive Player of the Week.
UNCG is currently winless in conference play and only has one win overall which was a sweep over USC Upstate. In the September matchup with the Spartans, the Bears took it in a sweep at home, while only allowing nine UNCG points in the second set. Mercer outdid UNCG handedly in hitting percentage (.385 to .082) and blocks (nine to one).
Wofford and Mercer both have 6-2 conference records and are tied for second in the Southern Conference. Wofford will host Chattanooga on October 20 before hosting Mercer on the 21st. In the season's first matchup between the two teams, Wofford won 3-0 in a match that was filled with ties (16) and lead changes (nine).Â

Following this weekend, the Bears will return home to host Western Carolina on October 26 and current undefeated conference leader The Citadel on October 27.
