Football Jumps Back Into National Rankings

CHICAGO – A solid month of October that was accentuated with an upset victory at then-No. 10 Western Carolina on Saturday has moved the Mercer football team back into familiar territory on Monday as the Bears slid back into the StatsPerform FCS Top 25 poll in the No. 25 position, the publication announced.

One of four SoCon squads included in this week's listing, Mercer (6-3, 4-2 SoCon) joins No. 2 Furman, No. 14 Chattanooga, and No. 16 Western Carolina in this week's national poll. Undefeated South Dakota State maintained its perch atop the national ranking after posting a convincing 37-3 at then-No. 4-South Dakota.

The Orange & Black registered a 3-1 clip in the month of October, including road wins over both East Tennessee State and Western Carolina. That span also included a home win over Wofford.

The 25th-ranked Bears will close out the road portion of their 2023 regular season schedule on Saturday when they trek to Charleston, S.C., to take on The Citadel (0-8, 0-5) at Johnson Hagood Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m.
