| MERCER/THE CITADEL SERIES | ||
| The Citadel leads the all-time series with Mercer, 11-8-1, in head-to-head matchups that date all the way back to the 1906 season. The Bulldogs have also taken five of the nine matchups between the two squads since college football returned to Macon in time for the 2013 season. However, the Bears will ride a 3-game series win streak into Saturday's contest, and have captured two of the last three matchups in Charleston, S.C. | ||
| SCOUTING THE CITADEL | ||
| The Bulldogs, under the direction of first-year head coach Maurice Drayton, returned 19 starters, including eight on the offensive side of the ball and seven on defense, from last year's team that registered a 4-7 record (3-5 SoCon) and a 6th-place finish in the league's final regular season standings. Among the returnees is placekicker Colby Kintner who led The Citadel with 46 points last season, including an 8-for-10 success rate on field goal attempts. The Citadel remained winless on the season following Saturday's 37-7 loss at Samford. Samford outgained The Citadel 336-90 in the first half alone on the way to lugging a 30-0 advantage into the halftime break, and then hit cruise control the rest of the way out. Samford scored points on five of its six drives in the opening stanza, while The Citadel tacked up its lone score via a 40-yard touchdown pass late in the third quarter. |

| MERCER D IS HEATING UP | ||
| Mercer's stop unit has registered 13 of its 17 takeaways this season over the last five outings, including six in Saturday's upset win over then-No. 10 Western Carolina. The impact of MU's defense has been felt in its ground forces across that span as well. Since the Week 4Â loss at Furman, the Bears have yielded just 74.0 rushing yards per game (5 games), and have allowed just one opponent to log more than 86 rushing yards. Western Carolina, who boasted the nation's 16th-best rushing attack last week, was held to just 86 rushing yards on Saturday. | ||
| NEXT WEEK FOR THE BEARS | ||
| The Bears will culminate Homecoming Week on campus, as well as close out their 2023 regular season schedule, on November 11 when they welcome Southern Conference rival Samford to Macon. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. Get your tickets ahead of time by visiting MercerBears.com/Tickets. | ||
