
Reid Brown Walk-Off Single Wins the Opening Weekend Series for the Bears

10-inning thriller boosts Bears to 2-1
MACON, Ga. – The Mercer baseball program (2-1) won the Opening Weekend series against William & Mary (1-2) with a 5-4 walk-off win in the 10th inning on Sunday afternoon at OrthoGeorgia Park. In his first at-bat as a Mercer Bear, Reid Brown hit a walk-off single for the win.
The Bears opened with a 3-0 lead thanks to a couple singles and a sacrifice fly. William & Mary got on the board with a single in the top of the third, but Mercer responded with another run in the bottom of the third. The Tribe cut the lead to two in the fourth before tying the score, 4-4, off an error in the fifth.
The next four innings were scoreless, sending the game to a 10th inning. Jozsef Rohrbacher walked and then advanced to second on a sacrifice fly by Landon Underhill. During Bradley Frye's at-bat, Rohrbacher advanced to third on a wild pitch, and Frye walked after a full count. With runners on the corners, Ben Olson was hit, advancing Frye to second and loading the bases. R. Brown stepped up to the plate and hit a line drive through the middle to score Rohrbacher for the win.
Josh Farmer started on the mound and pitched four innings in which he recorded three strikeouts, eight hits, and two earned runs. Wesley Franklin entered in relief in the fifth inning with the bases loaded. He struck out three that inning, but the Tribe tied the score at four a piece with two runs off a throwing error.
Holton McGaha pitched the next three innings, facing the minimum nine batters. Jaxon O'Neal (1-0) entered for the 10th inning and caught Cole Ragone swinging for the final out.
Eric Toth replicated his Saturday performance with another two hits in four at-bats on Sunday along with his first RBI for Mercer. Trevor Austin recorded three hits and one RBI in five at-bats.
Mercer has won 12 of the last 13 Opening Weekend series.
