
Bears Set for First-Ever Meeting with Rhode Island

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer baseball program (4-1) will host Rhode Island (1-2) for the second weekend series of the year on February 24-26 at OrthoGeorgia Park. This is the first-ever meeting with the Rams and the second new opponent of the season for the Bears.

SCOUTING RHODE ISLAND
The Rams opened the season on the road against Sam Houston with a series loss, 1-2. After a tight 3-2 loss on Friday, Rhode Island won 13-3 on Saturday before losing 25-2 on Sunday. The Rams finished 20-35 overall and 14-10 in the A10 last season after opening the year with 13-straight losses.

First baseman Michael Anderson leads the team with five hits and four RBI with a .538 on-base percentage. Eric Genther, who batted second in the first three games, hit one of the Rams' two home runs and has the second-best batting average of .364.

On the mound, Sean Sposato and Trystan Levesque each struck out eight batters on Opening Weekend and allowed just three earned runs combined. Mercer has allowed fewer earned runs in two more games played than the Rams so far this season.

The Bears grabbed two midweek wins over Florida A&M, characterized by very different games. On Tuesday, Mercer put on a scoring show to win 21-5 led by three-run home runs by Eric Toth, Treyson Hughes, and Sam Stewart. Wednesday's game took 13 innings until Eli Runyan hit an RBI single, scoring Trevor Austin, to win 8-7. Holton McGaha earned his first win of the season against the Rattlers in his second scoreless appearance of the year.

After his 11-strikeout performance last Friday, Josh Harlow was named the Southern Conference Pitcher of the Week. The sophomore will start on the mound again this week after the first SoCon honor of his career.
