Neal-Tysor averaged 34.5 points per game last week
MACON, Ga. – Mercer women's basketball player Amoria Neal-Tysor was named SoCon Player of the Week, for games played Feb. 21-27 as announced by the SoCon office.Â
This is Neal-Tysor's second Player of the Week award this season, after earning it on Dec. 20, 2022.
In two games played last week, Neal-Tysor averaged 34.5 points per game and 3.5 assists. She shot 50 percent from the field and was 10-fo-21 from 3-point range (47.6%).
In Mercer's game at Furman, Neal-Tysor went for a career-high 42 points on 14-for-24 shooting including 5-for-8 (62.5%) from beyond the arc. Her 42 points were the first time any SoCon player has scored 40-plus points in a game since ETSU's Erica Haynes-Overton had 41 on Nov. 5, 2019, against Tennessee. Neal-Tysor's scoring performance was also just six points away from tying the conference's single-game record of 48.
Â
Two days later, Neal-Tysor had a game-high 27 points as the Bears fell to Wofford 82-76. Neal-Tysor had six rebounds, four assists and a block in the game.
Neal-Tysor led the SoCon in scoring in conference play, averaging 19.6 points per game. She was seventh in the conference in field goal percentage at 47.3 percent.
Â
Mercer (12-15, 8-6 SoCon) enters the 2023 Ingles Southern Conference Women's Basketball Championship as the No. 5 seed and will take on the fourth seed, UNCG, at 1:15 p.m. on Thursday, March 2, inside Harrah's Cherokee Center in Asheville, North Carolina.
