MACON, Ga. – With a walk-off home run by Jozsef Rohrbacher, the Mercer baseball program (13-5) defeated Georgia State (9-8), 11-9, on Tuesday night at OrthoGeorgia Park.

Georgia State took a quick lead, scoring three in the first. The Bears responded with a six-run showing in the third inning, started by a home run by Eric Toth. This was his sixth home run of the year which leads the team.

After Mercer took the lead in the third, the Bears never surrendered it. The Panthers got back within two in the fourth, but Mercer scored two more in the fifth to make it 9-5. Georgia State added one run in each of the last three innings to tie it at nine apiece heading into the bottom of the ninth. With one out and a runner at first, Rohrbacher hit a walk off home run over the right field wall to send the Panthers home.

Colton Cosper threw three innings, only giving up two runs and striking out four batters before Garrett Sloan came in for recovery in the fifth inning. Sloan went for three innings, allowing just one run and striking out a career-high five batters. Holton McGaha (3-0) grabbed the win after earning the final out in the top of the ninth.

The Bears faced six different Georgia State pitchers, two of which were taken off the mound after just one out. Rohrbacher led the team offensively, reaching base in five of his six plate appearances and hitting his third homerun of the season. Trevor Austin and Antonio Brown each went 2-for-4.

NOTES

Five strikeouts are a career high for Garrett Sloan.
Four strikeouts are a season high for Colton Cosper.
Treyson Hughes has reached base in 24-straight games, dating back to the 2022 season.
Mercer has won eight of the last nine games.
