
Mercer Ready for Midweek Matchup with Georgia Southern

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer baseball program (14-7) is set to host Georgia Southern (10-10) on Wednesday, March 22 at 6 p.m. at OrthoGeorgia Park. This will be the first game as part of the Working Wednesday promotion, and the first 200 fans will receive free light bulbs as the Bears look to Electrocute the Eagles.

The Eagles hit the road to Macon after eight-straight games at home. Georgia Southern leads the all-time series with Mercer, 79-27, but the Bears have posted a closer record under head coach Craig Gibson, tilting 17-11 in GSU's favor since 2004.

SCOUTING GEORGIA SOUTHERN
Since Mercer and Georgia Southern met at the end of February, the Eagles lost a weekend series to UCF, dropped a pair against Georgia, were swept by Rutgers, lost a midweek game to Kennesaw State, and got back on track with a sweep of South Alabama. Georgia Southern is 10-10 overall and 3-0 in the Sun Belt.

Wednesday will be just the second start of the season for RHP Ga'von Wray. The junior has made six appearances for 10.2 innings in which he struck out 13 batters and allowed 17 hits, eight runs, and four walks.

In the previous matchup this season, Sam Blancato went 3-for-5 and Jarrett Brown finished 2-for-5 for three RBI including a home run. Leadoff hitter Jesse Sherill leads the team with a .356 batting average and .500 on-base percentage.                                                Â

The Bears concluded a weekend series with Rutgers, falling 2-1 overall. Mercer won Saturday's game, 11-9, featuring four home runs. Eli Runyan recorded his first-career multi-home run game while Max Kops hit his first home run of the season and first as a Mercer Bear.
Mercer claimed a walk-off midweek win against Georgia State last Tuesday thanks to a two-run blast to right field by Jozsef Rohrbacher in the bottom of the ninth. Holton McGaha claimed two wins on the mound last week after securing the final out against the Panthers and slowing the Rutgers offense on Saturday.
