
Mercer Drops Series Finale to The Citadel

Bears won weekend series 2-1
CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Mercer baseball program (16-9, 2-1) fell in the Sunday game against The Citadel (14-9, 1-2), 6-2, at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park. The Bears won the weekend series, 2-1, and are now 30-16 overall against the Bulldogs.
Mercer took the lead first in all three games against The Citadel, this time scoring in the second off a single by Ben Olson. The Bears held the Bulldogs scoreless for the first three innings before The Citadel tied it in the fourth.
The Bulldogs scored five more across the next two innings. The Bears minimized the damage with a throw from Jozsef Rohrbacher in left field to Olson to catch a runner at the plate and get the final out in both innings.
Mercer put together a series of promising plate appearances in the ninth but only scored one run. Antonio Brown pinch ran for Eric Toth who singled to reach first. A. Brown advanced to second on a single by Reid Brown and advanced to third on a fly out by Trevor Austin. A ground out by Carter Geier plated A. Brown for the Bears' final run of the day.
Colton Cosper made his second start of the season and second of the week, throwing 4.1 innings. He finished with four runs, five hits, two walks, and one strikeout. Garrett Sloan entered in relief in the fifth inning, allowing two runs, four hits, and two walks while striking out one. Jaxon O'Neal and Caleb Bohn each pitched scoreless and hitless innings to close out the game.
