Mercer Set for Midweek Tie with Texas

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer baseball program (9-4) will face Texas (4-7) for the first time in program history on Wednesday, March 8 at 7:30 p.m. (ET).

SCOUTING TEXAS
The Longhorns opened the season at the College Baseball Showdown in Arlington, facing No. 8 Arkansas, Missouri, and No. 10 Vanderbilt, and losing all three. Texas took a weekend series against Indiana before being shut out by No. 1 LSU. Most recently, the Longhorns lost a three-game series to Cal State Fullerton after extra innings on Sunday. Texas will play Sam Houston on Tuesday night before welcoming Mercer on Wednesday.

Texas averages 7.6 hits per game compared to Mercer's 8.6. Eric Kennedy leads the team with 17 hits (.386 BA), and Porter Brown has hit a team-high four home runs this year.

The Texas pitching staff holds a 3.36 ERA which ranks 28th in the country. Lebarron Johnson Jr., who threw five innings in the past two midweek games for the Longhorns, leads the team with a 2.25 ERA only allowing three earned runs so far this season.

Mercer completed a four-game sweep of Bellarmine on Sunday with an emphatic 15-5 victory. Treyson Hughes and Ty Dalley each hit three home runs over the weekend while Ben Olson hit his first home run as a Bear. Hughes' home run on Saturday evening notched a walk-off win for the Bears.

RHP Ryan Lobus struck out a career-high nine batters in 5.1 innings on Saturday afternoon against the Knights. In the second game on Saturday, Josh Farmer struck out five and allowed zero walks.
