
Bears Set to Host Owls

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer baseball program (21-12, 3-3 SoCon) will host Kennesaw State (14-16, 6-6 ASUN) on Wednesday, April 12 at 6 p.m. at OrthoGeorgia Park. It is Working Wednesday at the ballpark, and the first 200 fans will receive a cork screw as the Bears look to Cork Kennesaw.

Wednesday's game is the second matchup between the two teams this season. Mercer won 15-6 on the road at the end of March to extend the all-time lead to 31-18 overall. The Bears have won 10 of the last 12 meetings with Kennesaw State.

SCOUTING KENNESAW STATE
Since the two teams played, the Owls won a weekend series against Jacksonville State, lost a midweek tilt against Georgia, and lost a weekend series to Austin Peay.

Starting pitcher Agyei Quinichett has made 10 appearances this season, all from the bullpen. The highlight of his season so far has been seven strikeouts in 4.1 innings thrown against Georgia. All other outings have been two innings or less with limited action.

Nick Colina has been walked 32 times this season and ranks seventh in Division I for walks per game at 1.10. He has also been hit eight times which is a team high. The Owls post a better batting average than the Bears at .281 compared to .272, but Mercer has scored 51 more runs this season.

Mercer battled the weather over the weekend and managed to fit in three games against Cal State Northridge, taking the series 2-1. The Bears withstood a lengthy lightning delay on Thursday to win 9-2. The teams split a doubleheader on Friday with Mercer winning the second seven-inning game, 4-2.

Fred Wilson made his first appearance on the mound this season against Florida A&M last Tuesday and earns the start again this week. The junior struck out one batter in one inning pitched against the Rattlers.

Jozsef Rohrbacher has been on a hot streak inside OrthoGeorgia Park, hitting a home run in four of the last five games.
