
Carol Pyon Wins Brickyard Collegiate; Bears Win Team Title

Mercer won by 19 shots over runner-up Incarnate Word
MACON, Ga. - The Mercer women's golf team won the 2023 Brickyard Collegiate by 19 strokes over runner-up Incarnate Word and Carol Pyon was the individual champion on Tuesday afternoon from Brickyard Golf Club.
Mercer led by six shots through 36 holes heading into the final round on Tuesday. The Bears would go on to shoot their best round of the tournament on Tuesday at 1-under par 287. All five Mercer golfers finished in the top 10 -Â including four in the top 5 -Â out of 47 golfers competing.
The Bears finished the tournament with a team score of 885 (+21). Runner-up Incarnate Word finished 19 shots back of Mercer with a team score of 904 (+40).
Carol Pyon won the tournament with a score of 220 (+4). She had a final round of 72 (E) after starting the day two shots back of the lead. Pyon finished one shot ahead of individual runner-up Tracy Rodriguez who had the best round of any player at the tournament in the final round as she shot a 2-under 70.
Now in her final season at Mercer, Pyon has won the Brickyard Collegiate as a freshman and now as a fifth year senior.
Tracy Rodriguez's second place finish is her best finish at a tournament this season. In her final round on Tuesday, Rodriguez had four birdies on the front nine including three in a row on holes 4-6 for a 4-under 32 on the front nine. She led the field on par 5s at 3-under for the tournament.
On Tuesday, Camilla Järvelä had an eagle on No. 16 for the second consecutive round. Her two eagles for the tournament led the field.
Mercer led the eight team field on par 3s and par 4s and was one of two teams to play the par 5s under par (2-under). The Bears also led the field with 35 birdies throughout the tournament, five more than the next closest team Cincinnati.
