Mercer Up To Second After Second Round At SoCon Championship

HILTON HEAD, S.C. - The Mercer women's golf team finished the second round of the SoCon Championship in second place from Moss Creek Golf Club.

Mercer is 15 shots back of Furman, who leads the tournament through 36 holes. For the tournament, Mercer is 605 (+29) and Furman has a team score of 590 (+14).

In the second round on Monday, the Bears shot 298 (+10), and Furman shot 293 (+5). Right behind Mercer in third place is Western Carolina who has a team score of 606 (+30) through two rounds.

Kate Song moved up seven spots on the leaderboard after Monday and is in third place. She is at 1-over 145 for the tournament and is two shots back of second place and seven shots back of current leader Anna Morgan of Furman who is at 6-under 138.

Song had the second best round of the day with a 69 (-3) on Monday. Song had four birdies and one bogey in her round. Song has been one of the best golfers on the par 5's as she is 2-under on them for the tournament which is second best in the 45 player field.

Her seven birdies is also second most. Mercer is second with 20 birdies in the tournament, with Furman leading the field with 25 total birdies.

The final round of the SoCon Championship for Mercer begins Tuesday as Carol Pyon will be the first Mercer golfer off the first tee at 9:20 a.m. The Bears will be in the final group with Furman and Western Carolina.
