Mercer Falls to Georgia State

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Panthers opened the scoring in the bottom of the first after a string of singles brought Will Mize around the base path. Fred Wilson struck out the final GSU batter of the inning to strand two Panthers.
In the top of the second, Georgia State pitcher Camren Landry was almost out of the inning until first baseman Cameron Jones could not scoop up a ground ball from Ty Dalley, allowing the freshman to reach first base. Carter Geier then singled up the middle to put two runners on base. Carter Sanford stepped up to the plate next and hit a three-run blast to right field to take the lead for the Bears. This was the catcher's second home run of the season.
WITHOUT A DOUBT💣 @carter_sanford's 2nd HR of the year!

Georgia State hit a home run of its own in the bottom of the frame, bringing the score to 3-2 still in favor of Mercer. Wilson caught two more swinging in the inning to bring his count to three strikeouts.
After a quiet offensive inning, Mercer earned its 35th double play of the season to keep the Panthers scoreless for the second consecutive inning. Treyson Hughes caught JoJo Jackson in a bad situation as he left the third base bag on a fly out but Hughes made a catch on the run in center field and threw to Geier at third before Jackson could return.

GSU scored one on a wild pitch, and Max Ryerson homered to score two more as the Panthers took the lead in the bottom of the fourth, 5-3.
Landry walked two Bears in the top of the fifth, forcing Georgia State to make a pitching change to bring in Davis Chastain, but Mercer did not plate any in the inning. With runners on the corners, the Panthers scored one on a sacrifice bunt in the bottom of the fifth to extend the lead to 6-3.
A seven-run sixth by the Panthers enacted the run rule as the Bears stranded three without scoring in the top of the seventh.
