
Mercer Welcomes CSUN for Three-Game Series

MACON, Ga.  –  The Mercer baseball program (19-11, 3-3 SoCon) will host Cal State Northridge (18-6, 6-3 Big West) for a three-game series at OrthoGeorgia Park, beginning on Thursday, April 6 at 6 p.m. The teams will play out the series on Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m.

This is the first-ever meeting between Mercer and CSUN. The Matadors are the seventh new opponent for the Bears this season. Mercer is 11-6 against first-time opponents this season.
 
SCOUTING CSUN
CSUN is currently on a five-game winning streak and scored in double figures in all five contests. The Matadors swept UC Riverside over the weekend, scoring 51 total runs, and beat California Baptist on Monday, 12-3. This weekend's series will be the first and only regular-season trip outside the state of California for CSUN.
 
The Matadors rank 11th in Division I for batting average (.323) and 23rd for on-base percentage (.419). CSUN has scored fewer runs than Mercer but also allows significantly fewer earned runs on defense. The pitching staff is recording a 4.37 combined ERA, allowing just 102 earned runs this season.
 
Jakob Simons leads the team with eight home runs, four more than the next player, and is 10-of-10 on stolen bases. CSUN as a team has logged 43 stolen bases on 54 attempts. Lucas Braun, Thomas Bainton, and Kenji Pallares have been consistent starters on the mound for CSUN and are 9-5 combined.
 
RECENT ACTION
Mercer posted a 12-run win over Florida A&M on Tuesday thanks to a seven-run second inning and three-run home runs by Jozsef Rohrbacher and Max Kops. Last weekend, the Bears dropped a conference series to Western Carolina, 2-1.
 
Colton Cosper was named Southern Conference Pitcher of the Week after his performance against the Catamounts on Friday. The sophomore struck out six in five scoreless innings for a 2-1 team victory.
