
Bears Continue SoCon Play at Wofford

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Mercer baseball program (28-20, 10-5) will take on Wofford (34-14, 9-6) in the final road series of the season, beginning Friday, May 12 at 5 p.m. at Russell C. King Field. The teams will continue the series on Saturday at 3 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. The Bears currently sit in second place in the conference with Wofford right behind in third place.

Mercer leads the all-time series with Wofford, 21-15. The Bears have won four of the last seven weekend series against the Terriers. Neither team has swept a series since Mercer joined the Southern Conference in 2015.
SCOUTING WOFFORD
Defending regular-season champions, Wofford, currently have the most overall wins among SoCon teams with 34 but sit a game behind Mercer in the conference standings. Both Wofford and Mercer have played one less conference series than league-leading Samford. The Terriers took the series against Samford but have yet to sweep any conference opponents. Most recently, Wofford dropped a weekend series to UNCG and beat Georgia State on Tuesday.
The Terriers lead the SoCon in numerous categories, including ERA, fielding percentage, on-base percentage, and runs. Wofford's biggest offensive weapon is Ryan Galanie who leads the conference in batting average (.423), hits (80), on-base percentage (.516), runs (62), and RBI (60). Galanie also ranks third in the league in home runs with 14 this season.
Two pitchers have started consistently for Wofford: Matthew Marchal and Coulson Buchanan. Marchal leads the SoCon in wins this season with nine in 16 appearances. Both Marchal and Buchanan have pitched a complete game this season. The Terriers also have a lethal reliever, Lucas Mahlstedt, who posts a 2.04 ERA in 66.1 innings pitched across 20 appearances. Mahlstedt is 5-1 with four saves this season.
RECENT ACTION
The Bears had an unfortunate cancellation on Tuesday night against Florida A&M due to weather. The team has now been idle since last weekend when Mercer played at Florida State.
The most recent conference series for the Bears was against UNC Greensboro on April 28-30 in which Mercer won two of three to claim the series. Colton Cosper excelled on Friday night, throwing the first nine-inning complete game for Mercer since 2018. Jozsef Rohrbacher had a career day on Sunday, becoming the first Mercer player to hit three home runs in a single game since 2019.
