The Bears will face The Citadel on Friday, May 26 at 12:30 p.m. in an elimination game at Fluor Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Wofford took an early lead with four runs on five hits and one error, but the Bears responded immediately with a five-hit inning, too.
Hughes led off the frame with a single to center field, and Antonio Brown followed suit with a single through the left side. Eric Toth launched his 20th home run of the season to left center, bouncing it off the apartments in the outfield. Carter Sanford and Jackson Cherry each added base hits in the inning before the final out.

The Terriers added two more in the second, but the Bears minimized the damage with another run in the bottom of the inning. Hughes and A. Brown bested their earlier at-bats with a pair of doubles as Hughes crossed the plate. Toth earned an intentional walk for his previous efforts, but no other runs were plated.

The slugfest continued for Wofford with seven more runs across the third and fourth frames. Jaxon O'Neal entered in relief in the fourth with zero outs and retired the next three batters in just five pitches.
Mercer got two more back in the fourth with a two-run shot by Jozsef Rohrbacher over the wall in left field, scoring A. Brown. Micah Takac entered on the bump in the fifth and retired the side, finishing off with a strikeout.

The Bears posted a four run, five hit fifth inning to bring the deficit to just three. Trevor Austin and Jackson Cherry opened with singles and advanced on a passed ball. Bradley Frye plated Austin on another single while a fielder's choice scored Cherry. Hughes notched his third hit of the game before A. Brown followed up with the same, hitting a double to score Ty Dalley and move Hughes to third. A ground out by Rohrbacher was enough to bring home Hughes. Toth was intentionally walked for the second time, but this was it for Mercer in the fifth.
Wofford scored two more in the sixth, but a double play held the Terriers scoreless in the seventh. Jess Ackerman struck out two in the eighth for back-to-back scoreless innings by the Bears' defense.
Four more runs were pushed across in the eighth by the Bears to get within two. Frye notched his second RBI of the game, scoring Austin who was hit by a pitch. Dalley singled next to score Conner Todaro pinch running for Jackson Cherry who doubled. This forced a pitching change by Wofford, but Hughes logged his fifth hit of the night to score Frye.

The Terriers logged one more run in the top of the ninth. The Bears attempted a late surge with two outs on the board with a string of pinch hitters. Max Kops doubled to center field followed by a single by Eli Runyan. Blake Schmitt recorded his first RBI of the season with a single, scoring Kops. This was the only run of the inning, and Wofford took the win, 16-14.
