TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Mercer baseball program (28-20) dropped the final game of the series to Florida State (18-28), 13-3, on Sunday at Dick Howser Stadium. Jackson Cherry hit his eighth home run of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Treyson Hughes and Antonio Brown started Mercer off well again with a single and a walk, respectively, but the Bears could not plate any runs. FSU blew open the game with five runs in the first after five base hits and a walk.

Mercer got on the board in the second with a two-run homer by Jackson Cherry over the right field fence, scoring Bradley Frye who reached on a single. A Carter Geier walk forced a pitching change for the Seminoles. New pitcher Andrew Armstrong allowed a double by Ty Dalley on his first pitch, but no more runs were scored in the inning.

Jozsef Rohrbacher completed an impressive double play in the bottom of the second to get the Bears out of a bases-loaded jam. Treyton Rank made contact with the ball but it bounced just in front of the plate, allowing Rohrbacher to scoop it up, step on home plate, and make the throw to Dalley at first base for the second out.

The Bears minimized the damage in the bottom of the third as Titan Kamaka was caught stealing, making Colton Vincent's home run a solo shot. Mercer recorded a similar heads-up play in the fifth inning as Rank was picked off at first base to limit Kamaka's home run to just one RBI. FSU's third home run of the day by Cam Smith scored three to put the Noles ahead, 10-2. A triple put Nander de Sedas in scoring position, and he was brought home on a single by DeAmez Ross in the seventh.

In the top of the eighth, Rohrbacher hit a double off the right field wall to put two runners in scoring position after A. Brown was walked on four pitches. Another four-pitch walk was dealt to pinch hitter Conner Todaro to load the bases. Frye hit a sacrifice fly just inside the right field foul line to score A. Brown.

NOTES

Treyson Hughes led off every game this weekend with a hit (2B, 1B, 1B).
Hughes is on a ten-game hitting streak and has reached base in 13-straight games.
Jackson Cherry hit his eighth home run of the season.
