Järvelä had best round of day for Mercer with 2-under 70
WOLCOTT, Colo. - Camilla Järvelä had a strong first round with a 2-under 70 at the Golfweek Red Sky Classic iin Wolcott, Colorado.
Järvelä's round puts her in a tie for fifth place, just two shots off the leader after 18 holes.
Järvelä was excellent on the front nine, shooting 32 with four birdies and no bogeys. She closed out her round with an eagle on the par 5, 18th.
As a team, Mercer is in a tie for sixth place after the first round. The Bears shot 297 (-9) and are tied with South Dakota State. Pepperdine was the only team to finish under par at 3-under 285 as they lead the 16-team field after Monday.
Mercer had 15 birdies as a team on Monday, the fifth most in the field.
Katie Scheck with a 3-over 75 on the day. She led the Bears with five birdies in her round.
Mercer begins the second round on Tuesday at noon ET/10 a.m. MT.
