MERCER/PRINCETON SERIES
Saturday's matchup will mark the first meeting between the Bears and the Tigers on the gridiron, and the first time a school out of the Ivy League has visited Five Star Stadium. Mercer has faced just one other Ivy League school in the 50+-year history of its program, dropping a 35-28 setback at Yale on Oct. 13, 2018. Princeton has played just four games outside the Ivy League footprint over the last 10 years, and came away with victories in all four contests.
SCOUTING PRINCETON | ||
Princeton returned 15 starters (8 offense, 7 defense) off of last year's squad that turned in a 5-5 mark and a fourth-place finish in the final Ivy League standings. The Tigers opened up their newest campaign with a 35-20 loss at Lehigh on September 21, but tacked up their first win of the season up a week later with a 30-13 home win over Howard. Â The Tigers also dropped their conference opener last weekend at Columbia (34-17). Princeton has captured 13 Ivy League championships over the last 67 years, and claims 28 national championships, including 20 in the 19th century.
HOME SWEET HOME | ||
Mercer is now 45-20 (.692) all-time in Five Star Stadium following its Week 4 win over The Citadel, including a 19-4 (.826) clip since the 2019 campaign. The Bears have turned in at least four wins inside their home stadium in each of the last four years, and have now captured 12 of their last 14 home games (current 5-game win streak at home) following the 38-21 triumph over the Bulldogs on September 21.
BEARS TOTE FCS WIN STREAK INTO SATURDAY
The Bears will carry a seven-game regular season win streak against non-conference FCS opponents into Saturday's matchup in Macon. Mercer's last regular season setback against such foes came via a 20-17 nail-biting loss to visiting Abilene Christian on Oct. 31, 2020. MU has also won six-straight games (regular or postseason) against non-conference FCS opponents at Five Star Stadium. |
