| MERCER/SAMFORD SERIES | ||
| Saturday's matchup will mark the 30th meeting between the Bears and Samford in a series that dates all the way back to the 1907 season. Samford leads the all-time series, 15-14-1, including a 6-4 mark against the Orange & Black since the 2013 campaign. The Bears have come away empty on four out of their last five trips to Birmingham, including a 50-44 setback in double overtime in their last appearance at Pete Hanna Stadium. MU's lone win in Birmingham this century was a 30-24 triumph on Sept. 15, 2018. | ||
| SCOUTING SAMFORD | ||
| Samford returned 11 starters (5 offense, 6 defense) off of last year's squad that registered a 6-5 record, as well as a 4-4 mark (T-5th) inside Southern Conference play. Among the returning starters are a pair of Preseason All-SoCon standouts, including graduate linebacker Noah Martin who currently ranks 14th, nationally, with 9.6 tackles per game. The Bulldogs have yielded just four turnovers through their first five outings (11th NCAA), and are among the nation's least-penalized squads at just 3.4 penalties per game (5th NCAA). | ||
| SOCON WIN STREAK | ||
| Mercer has now captured seven-straight victories against Southern Conference competition dating back to last season following its 38-21 victory in Week 4 against The Citadel. MU's last setback against a SoCon rival came via a 22-10 home loss to Chattanooga on Oct. 14, 2023. The Bears have won nine of their last 10 against league foes following last season's SoCon-opening loss at then-No. 7 Furman, 38-14. | ||
| BEARS AWAY FROM HOME | ||
| Mercer is 28-36 (.438) in true road games since football returned to campus in 2013, including a 28-26 (.519) clip against FCS competition. The Bears are 19-19 on the road against Southern Conference foes since joining the league prior to the 2014 campaign. MU has won six of its last seven road outings, however, and will ride a 6-game win streak in regular season road games into the tilt with Samford. | ||
