
Bumpers, Phillips Pick Up SoCon Weekly Awards

MACON - Skyler Bumpers and Brooke Phillips receive Offensive Player of the Week and Setter of the Week after their standout performances in Mercer's weekend sweep against The Citadel and Western Carolina.
Bumpers registered 4.0 kills per set with a total of 24 kills and 29 points across both matches this weekend. The Mobile, Ala. native hit an impressive .575 at the net, committing just one attack error in 40 total attempts, adding seven blocks and five digs. In the sweep of the Bulldogs, Bumpers recorded 18.5 points with a season and match-high of 16 kills, four digs and four blocks. The middle blocker also tallied eight kills with no attack errors, three blocks, one dig and one service ace against Western Carolina.
Phillips picked up 10.83 assists per set with 65 total in both three-set sweeps. The setter also hit .357 at the net with seven kills, while also turning in a pair of block assists. Against the Bulldogs, Phillips amassed 36 assists averaging 12.0 per set, six digs and two blocks. In the match against Western Carolina the graduate student recorded 29 assists averaging 9.7 per set, three service aces, six digs and hit .500 with four kills.
The Mercer squad will be back in action this weekend in Tennessee as they travel to Chattanooga on Friday night for a 6 p.m. match up and will face ETSU on Saturday in Johnson City for a 4 p.m. first serve.
