
Cross Country To Compete At NCAA South Regional

MACON - The Mercer men's and women's cross country teams will race in Tallahassee, Fla, at the NCAA DI South Regional on Friday morning. The women's 6k is set to kick off at 8:30 a.m. and the men's 10k will follow shortly after at 9:30 a.m.
The Bears most recently competed at the Southern Conference Championships in Greenville, S.C. where the women's team placed fifth and the men's team finished in sixth place. Emma James posted a personal best and was the first Bear to cross the finish line for the women's side in 19th place with a time of 17:51.3. On the men's side, Jacob Peters also posted a personal best time in the 8K at the 25:20.6 mark to be the first finisher for the Bears and place 13th overall.Â
The upcoming race on Friday morning will be the women's second 6K and the men's first 10K of the season. At the South Region Championships last year, the women's team finished 21st and the men placed 19th with Yianni Pothoulakis and Buck Ledford registering two of the fastest times in program history. Pothoulakis ran a 31:06.4 to place 71st and was the top finisher for the Bears with Ledford following shortly behind, crossing the line at the 31:53.3 mark to place 99th overall.Â
The Bears will be entering eight women and eight men into the race and will be streamed on ESPN+, along with livestats.
