Mercer Baseball Heads To Kennesaw For First Road Game

MACON – The Mercer baseball team (2-1, 0-0) will play its first road game of the 2024 season on Tuesday at Kennesaw State (1-2, 0-0) at 5 p.m. This will be the Owls' home opener after playing a three-game series at UAB this weekend. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.

Since Head Coach Craig Gibson took the reins at Mercer, the Bears lead the series 23-16. The Bears have won three-of-four games since Ryan Coe became head coach at KSU, including both games at Stillwell Stadium. Mercer and Kennesaw split last season's games, with each team getting a win on the road. The 2023 road win at KSU was Gibson's 648th, tying Barry Myers for the most wins in program history.

LAST TIME OUT FOR THE BEARS

Mercer won its opening weekend series against Toledo 2-1. The Bears dropped Friday's opener in 10 innings but won on Saturday and ended the weekend with a dominant 13-3 victory on Sunday. Saturday's win featured three solo homers--one apiece from Bradley Frye, Brandon Prince, and Conner Todaro. DI Baseball's and Perfect Game's Southern Conference Preseason Freshman of the Year Garrett Lambert had his first collegiate start on Sunday, striking out six batters and allowing just four hits through 5.1 innings pitched.

SCOUTING REPORT

Kennesaw State opened up its season at UAB, winning the first game 12-7 but dropping the next two, falling 12-4 and getting shut out 3-0. In KSU's first game, senior infielder Isaac Bouton blasted two home runs in the same inning--the first solo and the second bringing in three runs. The 2024 KSU squad returns 25 players from last season and adds 14 newcomers.

LOOKING AHEAD

The Bears return to Macon on Friday for a three-day series with Monmouth. Games will be at 6 p.m., noon, and 1 p.m.
