MACON -- A home run from Jackson Cherry sent the Bears' (4-1, 0-0) energy out of the park along with the ball on their way to a 6-5 win over Monmouth (1-4, 0-0) on Friday night.

Senior Reid Fagerstrom (2-0) got the win out of the bullpen for Mercer. The right-hander went two innings, giving up two earned runs on five hits, allowing one walk and striking out three. Junior Bryant Olson also pitched well, going one shutout inning without allowing a hit, walking one and striking out one.

Senior Antonio Brown led the way offensively for the Bears, going 1-for-2 in the ballgame with a home run, two walks and two RBI. Junior Jackson Cherry put together a noteworthy effort as well, going 1-for-2 with a home run and two RBI. Senior Brandon Prince also helped out, going 2-for-4 for Mercer with an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 1-0 entering the bottom of the first, the Bears first put two runs on the board when Antonioi Brown's ball left the yard with Brandon Prince aboard.

Mercer scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Prince, which evened the score at 3-3 in the fifth.

That 3-3 tie turned into a 6-3 Mercer lead in the seventh. The Bears recorded three runs in the frame, two of them coming across on a two-run homer from Cherry. Monmouth put two runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Mercer still held on for the 6-5 win.
