Hawks Fly South To Play Mercer For First Time In Program History

MACON – The Mercer baseball team (3-1, 0-0) will play Monmouth (1-3, 0-0) for the first time in program history this weekend. The New Jersey Squad will travel nearly 900 miles to Macon for the three-game series. Games will begin at 6 p.m. on Friday, noon on Saturday, and 1 p.m. on Sunday.

Monmouth Head Coach Dean Ehehalt is in his 31st season at Monmouth and 33rd season overall. He holds a 774-721-4 (.518) record with the Hawks. Mercer Head Coach Craig Gibson is in his 21st season at the helm in Macon with a 667-451 (.597) record. Ehehalt and Gibson are two of 32 current DI head baseball coaches with at least 20 years at their current school. Gibson is one of 21 with that much experience at the same institution for the entireity of his head coaching career.

LAST TIME OUT FOR THE BEARS

Mercer won its first road game of the 2024 season on Tuesday, defeating Kennesaw State 9-3. The game had an action-packed fourth inning in which the Bears scored six runs. Ty Dalley hit a home run and two RBI. Parker Lester went 3-for-4 at the plate with a double, walk, and RBI. Conner Todaro also logged three hits and two RBI. Jess Ackerman got the win on the mound, pitching 2.2 innings without giving up a hit and striking out three batters.

SCOUTING REPORT

Monmouth played two games apiece against Army and Penn State at a neutral site in Cary, N.C. over the weekend. The team came away with one win, a 10-3 victory over Penn State on Saturday. Graduate outfielder Harry Padden started in all four games, batting .500. He has one home run, six hits, and four RBI in 12 at bats.

LOOKING AHEAD

The Bears will host two games against Florida A&M on Tuesday and Wednesday at OrthoGeorgia Park. First pitch of both games will be at 6 p.m.
