Bears Release Spring Football Practice Schedule

MACON – Committed to building off of a record-breaking 2023 season that culminated with the program's first berth into the NCAA postseason, the Mercer football team will return to the practice field on March 15 when the Bears open spring drills.

The Orange & Black will return a plethora of talent off of its playoff depth chart, including six starters on each side of the ball, as well as a bulk of its specialists. The list of returning starters includes all-American linebacker Ken Standley who led the MU defense with 97 stops, including 15 tackles for loss, as well as four veterans on the offensive line.

Mercer will have 15 practice dates during the months of March and April, culminating with a final spring workout on April 13 in Five Star Stadium. Details and the format of MU's final spring session on April 13 have yet to be determined.
The spring practice season will mark the first of its kind at MU for Mike Jacobs who was named the program's 21st head coach on January 18. Jacobs, who has compiled a 74-17 (.813) record across head coaching stops at both Notre Dame (Ohio) and Lenoir-Rhyne, boasts the nation's sixth-best winning percentage among active coaches at the NCAA Divisions I and II levels. He is fresh off of a 2023 campaign that saw him lead Lenoir-Rhyne to a 13-2 clip that was accentuated with an appearance in the semifinal round of the NCAA Division II Playoffs.
