Mercer Leads From Second Inning On In 4-3 Win Over Florida A&M

MACON -- The Mercer Bears (7-1, 0-0) took a 3-0 lead in the second inning and never surrendered the advantage on the way to a 4-3 victory against the Florida A&M Rattlers (4-4, 0-0) on Tuesday.

Senior Graham Yntema (1-0) started on the mound and picked up the win for Mercer. The southpaw went three shutout innings while giving up two hits, allowing three walks and striking out three. Senior Reid Fagerstrom also made an impact on the mound for the Bears, throwing 1.2 innings, giving up one run on no hits, with one walk and three strikeouts.

In the batter's box, the Bears were led by sophomore Ty Dalley, who went 1-for-3 on the day with a home run, a walk and two RBI. Senior Noah Best furnished a standout effort as well, going 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Junior Jackson Cherry also contributed for Mercer, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding a walk.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Bears got on the scoreboard first, starting in the second inning. Mercer scored three runs in the frame, highlighted by a two-run homer from Dalley.

The Rattlers failed to push any runs across before the Bears built on their lead in the fourth inning. Mercer pushed across a run on Noah Best's RBI double, which brought the score to 4-0 in favor of the Bears. Florida A&M put three runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Mercer still held on for the 4-3 win.
