Bears Baseball Hosts Huskies On First Weekend Of March

MACON – The Mercer baseball team (8-1, 0-0) will play its third consecutive weekend series at OrthoGeoriga park this, hosting Northeastern (3-2, 0-0) on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Weather-permitting, Friday's first pitch is at 6 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m., and Sunday at 1 p.m.
This will be the first meeting between two squads with great postseason potential. The Bears now sit atop the Southern Conference rankings and have the lowest ERA (3.24) and most home runs (15) in the league.

| Mercer extended its winning streak to eight games after defeating Florida A&M on Tuesday and Wednesday. Mercer built a solid lead then allowed FAMU to close the gap in both games. In the first game, the Bears led 4-0 and won 4-3. In the second game, which was weather delayed two hours, they led 7-0 and won 8-5. Sophomore Jess Ackerman threw a career-high eight strikeouts in 4.0 IP on Wednesday and only gave up one hit. He is second in the SoCon in opposing team batting average (.125) and batters struck out (15). Bradley Frye hit his third home run of the season despite facing wind gusts up to 30 miles per hour. |

| Northeastern has played a challenging schedule thus far, facing the PAC-12's Arizona in Tuscon, Big Ten's Minnesota at The Boston Red Sox's Jet Blue Park, and played the Sox as an exhibition game. The Huskies walked away from Tuscon with one win and left Fort Myers with two wins over Minnesota. Northeastern was selected to win the 2024 CAA Championship in the preseason polls. Outfielder Mike Sirota was honored as Preseason Player of the Year as well as a Preseason All-American by DI Baseball, Baseball America, and Perfect Game. The team finished 2023 with 44 wins and a conference title. Seven All-Conference players returned to the roster for this season. |
