Mikayla Dubnik had the lowest round for Mercer with a 71 (-1)

RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico - The Mercer women's golf team finished it's first round of the spring season at the Puerto Rico Classic with a 7-over 295 on Sunday at Grand Reserve Golf Club. In a talented 15-team field that includes six teams ranked in the top 25, the team leaderboard is quite congested after day one, as the Bears currently sit in 12th place, but are just five shots back of fourth place Ole Miss and Georgia Southern.

Mikayla Dubnik - playing as an individual - had the lowest round of the day for the Bears with a 1-under 71 and is tied for 12th. Dubnik had four birdies on her round, including three in a row on holes: three, four, and five. Dubnik played the four par 5s at 2-under on the day.

Camilla Järvelä and Tracy Rodriguez each carded a 1-over 73 on the day. Like Dubnik, Rodriguez birdied the same consecutive holes - holes three through five - while Järvela's birdies came on the back nine as she birdied the par 4, twelfth and par 5, fifteenth.

"It was great to be back playing again and I'm happy with our start to the spring season," said head coach Michele Drinkard. "The energy is good and love this golf course. We look forward to teeing up for the 2nd round."

Mercer begins the second round on Monday at 9:30 a.m. ET/8:30 a.m. local via a shotgun start. The Bears will be in a group with Minnesota and Kansas State.
