Evans scored a career high 35 points against Samford last Saturday
MACON, Ga. - Mercer senior forward Summah Evans was named SoCon Player of the Week for the week of January 30 - February 5, as announced by the Southern Conference office Tuesday afternoon.
Evans is in her second season at Mercer after playing her first two seasons of college basketball at North Florida. Last season she was named the Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Year.
Mercer played just one game last week, earning a resounding 87-59 win at Samford last Saturday, Feb. 3. Evans had arguably her best offensive game of her career against the Bulldogs as she poured in a career high 35 points on 14-for-20 (70.0%) shooting. Evans went 5-for-8 (62.5%) from three-point range. She also had 6 rebounds.
Evans' 35 points were the most points scored by any Southern Conference player in a game this season. The previous game high had been owned by Wofford's Rachael Rose who scored 33 points back on January 13 against Western Carolina. Evans missed the first 13 games of the season due to an injury, but in 10 games played, she is leading the team in scoring at 13.9 points per game. She is also second on the team in rebounds at 6.9 per game.
Evans and the Bears host two crucial SoCon games in Hawkins Arena this week. First Mercer welcomes ETSU on Thursday, Feb. 8 at 7Â p.m., followed by hosting conference leaders Chattanooga on Saturday, Feb. 10 at 2 p.m.
