
Mercer Hosts Samford On Diploma Day Saturday

MACON, Ga. - The Mercer women's basketball team will play its final game of the regular season on Saturday, March 2 at 2 p.m. against the Samford Bulldogs. It's Diploma Day as the Bears will recognize its four seniors and graduate students on the team. The ceremony will take place after the game.

SERIES HISTORY
Saturday's game between Mercer and Samford will be the 37th all-time meeting between the two programs. Mercer leads the series 26-10. Mercer has won each of the last five meetings including an 87-59 win at Samford earlier this season.
SCOUTING SAMFORD
Samford enters today's game with a 14-14 overall record and a 6-7 record in conference play. The Bulldogs have played well of late as they enter today's game on a three-game win streak.
Samford has struggled to score the ball this season as they don't have a prolific scorer who they can rely on as no players are averaging double figures in scoring.
The Bulldogs are seventh in the SoCon in points per game in conference play at 55.2 points per game. They rank last in the SoCon in field goal percentage in conference games at 36.8 percent. They rank sixth in the SoCon in scoring defense at 61.5 points per game.
Samford does do a good job of contesting shots as they average the third most blocks in confernce play at 3.46 blocks per game. Sophomore Emily Bowman leads the SoCon in blocked shots per game in conference play with 2.2 per game.
Sophomore Carly Heidger leads the team in scoring at 9.9 points per game. Graduate guard Sadie Stetson averages 2.3 made three-pointers per game in conference play, tied for the best in the SoCon.
LAST TIME OUT
Five players scored in double figures and Mercer shot 50 percent from behind the arc on the way to a 79-74 victory over the Wofford Terriers at home Saturday.
Briana Peguero led Mercer offensively with 17 points and went 4-for-8 from deep. Stacie Jones added 15 points, six rebounds and two blocks and Deja Williams added 15 points and seven assists. Summah Evans and Mackenzie Johnson each had 12 points on the day. Evans had a double-double as she had a career high 16 rebounds to go with her 12 points.
NEED TO KNOW
Mercer had 18 assists in its last game against Wofford. It was the second most assists the Bears have had in a game this season.
