Bears Sit In 8th At Palmetto Intercollegiate

AIKEN – Tobias Jonsson closed out day one in Aiken, South Carolina with a 2-under-par 68 to be tied in 11th place on the individual leaderboard and helped the Mercer men's golf team settle for 9th place following round 1 and 2.

The Bears combined for a 21-over-par in the first and second round at the Palmetto Golf Club. Jonsson (+1) is currently tied for eleventh, but Jonathan Parker (+6) carded a 1-over-par 71 in the second round before settling in a tie for 29th place. Jay Spivey, ended his second round off shooting a one-over-par and after shooting four-over-par through the first 18 holes. Trey Mixon finished the day at 10-over par and a share of 51st place, while Jacob Uyesato finishes round two with a combine score of eight-over-par and a share of 42nd place.Â

South Carolina Aiken (+5) and East Carolina (+5) out-paced the rest of the 15-team field by 1 strokes, with Davidson College (+6) finishing at 1-under-par in round two. Furman (+13) sits above Virginia Tech (+14) and Boise State (+14) are each nine strokes behind South Carolina Aiken at the end of round two.

Mercer will be back in action tomorrow, March 5, as they continue to battle in the final day of the Palmetto Intercollegiate.
