Sixth Inning Run Not Enough In Loss To VMI

MACONÂ -- Mercer (18-15, 3-5 SoCon) cut a seven-run deficit to one in the sixth inning but ultimately fell to VMI (19-19, 3-5 SoCon) on Saturday.
Senior Graham Yntema got the ball to start for Mercer (18-15, 3-5) and took the loss, giving up three runs and striking out four batters.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 7-0, the Bears put runs on the board in the sixth inning. Mercer's offense started clicking and put up six runs.
The Keydets expanded its lead to 10-6 before the Bears offense got back to work, cutting into that lead in the eighth. Senior Noah Best came across to score the lone run of the inning for Mercer, which brought the score to 10-7 in favor of the Keydets.
VMI built its lead to 11-7 in the top of the ninth. The Bears added one run on junior Parker Lester's two-out solo home run off freshman Nathan Hawley. The Bears were unable to get any closer, and VMI took the win.
