
Wofford's Seven-Run 12th Inning Leads Terriers Past Bears

MACONÂ --Â The Mercer Bears (19-17, 3-7 SoCon) fell 9-2 in a 12-inning marathon matchup to the Wofford Terriers (26-10, 7-3) on Friday.
Freshman Cade Cosper took the loss on the mound for Mercer. Sophomore Jess Ackerman started the ballgame and went six shutout innings while allowing four hits, walking none and striking out five. Bryant Olson also struck out five batters, pitching 3-1/3 innings.
In the batter's box, the Bears were paced by junior Jackson Cherry who went 2-for-5 on the day with two home runs, a walk and two RBI. Both of Cherry's home runs tied the score to keep the Bears alive in the fight to win. Junior Bradley Frye went 1-for-3 with two walks. Senior Brandon Prince also chipped in for Mercer, putting together one hit in six trips to the plate while adding a double.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Neither team scored until Wofford put one run on the board in the seventh inning. Cherry put Mercer on the board in the eighth with a one-out solo home run off of sophomore Zac Cowan.
The Terriers then scored one run to retake their advantage heading into the 10th inning when the Bears responded by getting back on the scoreboard themselves. Mercer picked up a run on Cherry's two-out solo home run off of freshman Kenny Michaels which evened the score at 2-2. Wofford then scored seven times in the top of the 12th to break the tie and grab the 9-2 win.
