CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Senior Tobias Jonsson carded a 3-over-par 73 in Monday's opening round, but is 1-under-par through 14 holes of the second round of action at the NCAA Chapel Hill Regional at the Par-70, 7,084-yard Finley Golf Club near the University of North Carolina campus.
Â
Jonsson offset six bogeys with just a pair of birdies in Monday's opening round in central North Carolina, but birdied three holes on the front 9 in his second round of play, and is bogey-free so far through five holes on the back 9. He is among a seven-way tie for 36th place heading into what is expected to be the final day of action at the regional.
Â
The event was shortened from its originally-scheduled 3-day format due to inclement weather that is expected to make its way through the Carolinas late Tuesday and into Wednesday.
Â
The Huddinge, Sweden, native is the highest-seeded of 10 individual (not affiliated with participating team) student-athletes among the field of 78 golfers. The top five teams from each of six regional tournaments, as well as the lowest individual competitor not on those qualifying teams, will advance to the NCAA Championship, May 24-29, in Carlsbad, Calif.
