
Dalley Homers Twice In 19-14 Win Against VMI

GREENVILLE, S.C --Â Sophomore Ty Dalley put together an outstanding outing at the plate Wednesday, hitting two homers to help propel the Mercer Bears (27-27, 6-14 SoCon) over the VMI Keydets (27-29, 7-14 SoCon) 19-14.
Junior Colton Cosper started on the mound and picked up the win for Mercer. The southpaw went five innings, giving up six runs, all of them earned, on eight hits, allowing one walk and striking out three. Junior Jeb Johnson also made an impact on the mound for the Bears, throwing one scoreless inning while allowing one hit, with no walks and one strikeout.
Dalley went 3-for-6 at the plate, supplementing his two home runs with five RBIs. Junior Bradley Frye added to Dalley's awesome power-hitting performance by going 4-for-6 with a double, a home run and four RBI along with one walk. Senior Conner Todaro also helped out for the Bears, going 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Bradley Frye opened up the game with a two-RBI home run in the first inning and added two more RBI in his next at bat. The Bears scored in the first five innings and reached a game-high 18-3Â lead in the fifth inning before VMI began to cut into the lead. The Bears scored one more run in the seventh inning on an RBI single from Zach Thomas. Forty combined hits is the most hits in a Southern Conference tournament game. Mercer's 22 hits was the most since a 19-0 first round win over VMI in 2018.
